Bespoke made Wedding Suit with Charachter
A taupe-coloured herringbone suit with a statement waistcoat in lime green cotton velvet for a stylish wedding day
A subtle foundation, with room for a bold accent
For this client, we created a classic three-piece wedding suit based on a clear wish: something eye-catching, yet refined. While the initial idea leaned towards a fully bright-coloured suit, we ultimately arrived at a combination that was more personal, versatile, and balanced – with a calm foundation and a waistcoat as the colour accent.
Fabric and construction
The jacket and trousers are made from a taupe-coloured wool fabric in a 310-gram herringbone weave from Hardy Minnis. This fabric is becoming increasingly popular, thanks to its balance between structure and comfort. Its weight and texture provide a sharp and well-shaped appearance, while the softness offers a light and pleasant wearing experience. It has the airy look of a lightweight summer suit, yet the substance and presence of a classic wedding suit suitable for multiple seasons.
The entire suit is handmade with a full canvas construction – a combination that ensures a natural fit that adapts to the wearer and improves with every use.

Style and cut
The jacket’s design is kept classic, featuring a two-button closure with notch lapels, two jetted pockets, and a double vent at the back. In keeping with the calm character of the fabric, the design was intentionally kept understated. Its strength lies not in eye-catching elements, but in the fit, the proportions, and the comfort. When a garment includes a standout piece like the waistcoat, it’s important that the rest doesn’t compete with it
The trousers are made with pleats and turn-ups, adding a touch of relaxed elegance that complements the overall look of the suit.
Lime green cotton velvet waistcoat
The most striking element of this wedding suit is the waistcoat, made from lime green cotton velvet by Holland & Sherry (1824612 – Lime Solid from the HS2418B collection). Velvet is naturally expressive, with a soft sheen and rich texture. The colour stands out, but retains a natural character thanks to the use of cotton.

The waistcoat features a double-breasted closure and an asymmetric cut – a detail that gives it a distinctive presence without overwhelming the ensemble. The matching bow tie is made from the same velvet. Paired with the dark green paisley lining of the jacket, the result is a vibrant accent that contrasts visually with the taupe exterior, yet stays within a cohesive style palette.
Advice and wearability
At first, the client considered a fully bright-coloured suit. While that can work well for a themed wedding, it often limits the possibility of wearing the suit again. By opting for a calm, classic foundation and a striking waistcoat, we arrived at a combination that is both expressive and wearable – a suit that can easily be worn again in full or in parts, well beyond the wedding day.
This type of decision-making is exactly how we work. Bespoke tailoring is more than simply following a request – it’s about guiding choices, considering the moments when the suit will be worn, and translating personal style into something that truly fits the person.
