Getting Married in Style: A Custom-Made Tuxedo for an Evening Wedding in Dubai

A wedding is one of the most special moments in life, and it calls for an outfit that is both stylish and timeless. For a recent commission, we designed a custom-made tuxedo for an evening wedding in vibrant Dubai. The result? A classic yet unique tuxedo that perfectly aligns with the groom’s wishes, the formality of the occasion, and the distinctive setting of the wedding.

The Occasion: A Tuxedo for an Evening Wedding

The client deliberately chose a tuxedo due to the more formal nature of his evening wedding. Dubai, with its rich tradition of elegance and grandeur, is a city where tuxedos and dinner jackets are a common choice for formal occasions. Moreover, the bride wanted a classic look that perfectly complemented her own dress, resulting in a harmonious ensemble.

The groom’s goal was to appear well-groomed and elegant without compromising on comfort. Thanks to our expertise in bespoke tailoring and precise measurements, we were able to provide him with a tuxedo that not only met the highest standards but was also perfectly tailored to his athletic build.

The Fabric: A Tuxedo with Presence and Performance

Every tuxedo we design is made from a carefully selected fabric to ensure it is not only a beautiful garment but also comfortable to wear while delivering the right performance. For this commission, we selected a fabric from Holland & Sherry’s Cape Horn collection: a black herringbone fabric weighing 340 grams, composed of Super 100’s wool and cashmere. The herringbone pattern provides a subtle texture, creating an elegant contrast against the black satin details.

Design Features

  • Construction: Full canvas for a perfect fit and long-lasting comfort.

  • Lapels: Peak lapels with a satin finish, enhancing the tuxedo’s formal appearance.

  • Pocket Details: Diagonally placed pockets, a subtle non-traditional choice that creates a slimmer silhouette.

  • Back: Double vent, ideal for an athletic build to prevent the fabric from pulling open.

  • Buttons: Hand-stitched buttonholes and fabric-covered buttons for a luxurious finish.

  • Lining: Dark purple changeant Bemberg satin lining, adding a refined accent while maintaining the tuxedo’s classic look.

The matching trousers feature a 1.5 cm satin stripe, side buckles instead of belt loops, and a slightly tapered hem, ensuring the trousers fall neatly over the shoe without a ‘break.’ Additionally, the client opted for a handmade bow tie in the same black satin, creating a unified and sophisticated look.

Versatility Beyond the Wedding

One of the great advantages of a custom-made tuxedo like this is that it can be worn not only on the wedding day but also for business and festive occasions afterward. Thanks to its timeless design and high-quality craftsmanship, the tuxedo is a long-term investment that remains elegant and appropriate in various settings.

Style Variations

While the classic black tuxedo with a single-button closure and peak lapels is the most well-known option, there are various styles for clients to choose from.

Double-Breasted Tuxedos

A double-breasted tuxedo adds an extra touch of formality and exudes a strong, confident presence. This style is ideal for grooms who want to stand out and project a self-assured look.

Shawl Collars

The shawl collar is a softer, rounded lapel style that combines elegance with simplicity. Often seen on dinner jackets, this variation radiates refinement and classic sophistication.

Color Options

While black remains the traditional choice, midnight blue is a popular alternative. Midnight blue offers a deeper, richer appearance that often looks even more refined than black under artificial lighting. Other options include white dinner jackets, commonly worn in warmer climates, or even velvet tuxedos for a more striking and luxurious look.

With these variations, clients can fully personalize their tuxedo to match their unique style and the occasion.

Details & Personal Finishes

The details are what truly bring a wedding tuxedo to life. They make the difference between a standard outfit and a tuxedo that tells your story—a tuxedo that is uniquely yours.

When you choose bespoke tailoring, you have the freedom to customize and create every aspect of your tuxedo. Elements such as hand-stitched buttonholes, buttons, lining, and shoulder construction may be subtle details that only you notice, but they add a layer of luxury and refinement that you won’t find in a standard wedding tuxedo. These personal touches ensure that your outfit stands the test of time, with a timeless style that you can continue to wear beyond the wedding day.

The Result: Elegance and Bespoke Craftsmanship in Harmony

The final result was a tuxedo that not only perfectly matched the groom’s vision but also complemented the grandeur of the wedding celebration. The client, with whom we have collaborated before, was extremely satisfied. His friends, family, and even the best man also chose bespoke attire from De Oost, creating a cohesive and high-quality aesthetic throughout the wedding.

The History of the Tuxedo

The tuxedo originated in the late 19th century as a less formal alternative to white tie attire. The term “dinner jacket”, as it is known in England, refers to its use during elegant evening dinners. Prince Edward VII is often credited as one of the first to popularize the tuxedo, introducing it as a comfortable yet stylish alternative to more rigid formalwear. Since then, the tuxedo has evolved into a symbol of sophistication, frequently worn by celebrities and influential figures at gala events, premieres, and weddings.

Through the decades, the tuxedo has seen subtle changes, yet its core remains the same: a timeless and elegant outfit that exudes class and refinement.

Tuxedo Etiquette: The Rules of Elegance

A tuxedo is more than just an outfit—it is a statement. However, wearing a tuxedo comes with a set of etiquette rules. Here are some essential guidelines:

  • Time of Wear: A tuxedo is traditionally worn after 6:00 PM and is intended for evening occasions.

  • Accessories: Always pair a tuxedo with a black bow tie, black patent leather shoes, and a white pocket square. Remember, a tuxedo bow tie should always be hand-tied.

  • Shirt: Choose a white tuxedo shirt with a wing collar and a pleated or piqué front. Double cuffs are a must.

  • Waist Covering: Keep the waistline covered with a black waistcoat or a satin cummerbund.

  • No Watch: Wearing a watch with a tuxedo is considered improper etiquette—a tuxedo represents timeless elegance, meaning time should not be of concern.

By following these guidelines, you ensure that your tuxedo is not only well-fitted but also worn according to classic traditions.
