The Origins of Alfred Brown

In 1915, Herbert Brown founded the weaving company Brown & Sons (Bramley) Ltd in Leeds, Yorkshire. It began by producing fabrics for the military, police, and fire services. Thanks to the growth of the clothing industry in Leeds, the company quickly made a name for itself as a supplier of high-quality worsted fabrics for the ready-to-wear market.

In 1952, the company was renamed Alfred Brown (Worsted Mills) Ltd and established itself in London’s West End. Here, it began collaborations with London tailors and retailers, gaining international recognition. Today, Alfred Brown is known worldwide for its unique blend of tradition and innovation.
